Salesforce Pipeline Inspection: setup, editions and a weekly routine

Updated October 21, 2026 · Published October 21, 2026

Salesforce Pipeline Inspection is a list view of opportunities that highlights what changed (amount, close date, stage, forecast category) with pipeline metrics on top. It is included from Sales Cloud Core, $195 per user per month, and in Advanced and Max. You turn it on in Setup, then make it useful with the right list views and fields.

Set it up in five steps

  1. Turn it on. In Setup, search for Pipeline Inspection and enable it. Salesforce Help's "Set Up Pipeline Inspection" lists the related settings, including who can see it.
  2. Build focused list views. "My team, this quarter", "Commit and Best Case", "Closing in 30 days". Inspection is only as good as the list it sits on.
  3. Choose the columns. Owner, Stage, Close Date, Amount, Forecast Category, Last Activity Date and Next Step. Fewer columns read faster in a live review.
  4. Turn on insights if you have them. The Insights tab needs at least one Einstein feature: Opportunity Scoring, Deal Insights, Email Insights or Conversation Insights. Close Date Predictions were retired in Spring '25.
  5. Show managers the change indicators. Arrows and highlights mark what moved since a chosen date; that is the core of the tool.

Where each risk signal shows up

Signal you care aboutWhere Pipeline Inspection shows it
Close date pushedHighlighted change on Close Date
Amount cut or raisedHighlighted change on Amount
Deal moved backwards in stageHighlighted change on Stage
Forecast category downgradedHighlighted change on Forecast Category
No activity for weeksLast Activity Date column, if you add it; sort it yourself
Close date already in the pastClose Date column; not flagged unless you filter for it

Pipeline Inspection is strong on what moved. It is weaker on what did not move: a deal that has been silent for 60 days and still sits in Commit does not change, so nothing is highlighted.

A 20-minute weekly review

MinutesWhat to do
0 to 5Filter on this quarter, sort by Close Date: anything already in the past gets a new date or is closed
5 to 10Sort by Last Activity Date: anything older than 14 days is challenged, deal by deal
10 to 15Review the highlighted changes since last week: every pushed close date gets a reason
15 to 20Check coverage of the remaining target with the pipeline coverage calculator

Track the result over time with the forecast accuracy formula.

What it does not do

For a list of silent deals, scored per rep every night and ready before the forecast call, TruthPipe does that job at $99 per month per org. To compare the wider options, see sales forecasting software and Agentforce alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Which Salesforce editions include Pipeline Inspection?

Pipeline Inspection is listed from Sales Cloud Core, at $195 per user per month billed annually, and in Advanced and Max, on Salesforce's pricing page read on 21 October 2026. It is not listed for Starter Suite or Pro Suite.

What does Pipeline Inspection show?

Pipeline Inspection shows the opportunities in a list view with recent changes highlighted, such as amount, close date, stage and forecast category, plus pipeline metrics and, where enabled, deal insights and alerts.

Does Pipeline Inspection need Einstein?

The inspection view itself does not, but the Insights tab needs at least one Einstein feature enabled, such as Opportunity Scoring, Deal Insights, Email Insights or Conversation Insights, according to Trailhead.

Can Pipeline Inspection flag stalled deals?

It highlights recent changes and, with alerts and insights enabled, risk signals such as pushed deals or activity drops. It does not produce a ranked list of deals with no activity for a set number of days unless you build that list view.
