Salesforce in Claude: requirements, setup and the 37 skills
Salesforce in Claude is the beta plugin that lets a seller work their Salesforce pipeline from Claude: ask what needs attention today, prepare a call, review a deal, then update the CRM after approving the changes. It needs the latest Sales Cloud Enterprise edition, a paid Claude plan and Salesforce's approval for the beta.
It is the most visible piece of Claudeforce, the partnership announced on 26 August 2026. Anthropic released the plugin in beta on 15 September 2026.
What the plugin contains
Three parts, according to Anthropic and the Claude Help Center:
- 37 sales skills built by Salesforce, for the work an account executive does every day: account research, call prep, pipeline review, CRM updates, renewal prep, QBR decks, pipeline coverage and meeting follow-up.
- Two connectors. The Salesforce connector reads and acts on Salesforce data: summarize an account, update opportunities, log calls, create tasks. The Slack connector reads and writes deal-channel summaries and account-team threads.
- A setup skill. On first use it identifies the seller's tools and connectors and builds a Claude Artifact tailored to their role and book of business.
The plugin works in Claude chat and in Claude Cowork, on the web and on desktop.
Who can use it during the beta
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Salesforce edition | Latest Sales Cloud Enterprise edition |
| Salesforce approval | A Salesforce admin requests access through the beta form on AgentExchange and receives setup instructions by email |
| Claude plan | Any paid Claude plan for the organization |
| Claude admin rights | Primary Owner or Owner of the Claude organization |
| API version | 67.0 or later, which Summer '26 and Winter '27 orgs already have |
If any line is missing, the plugin cannot be connected. The edition line is the one that rules out most small teams: an org below the latest Enterprise edition has no route into the beta today.
Setup, split by who does what
The setup is one connection for the whole org. Each step belongs to a different person.
| Step | Who | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Salesforce admin | Requests beta access and waits for the acceptance email |
| 2 | Salesforce admin | Turns on the Salesforce MCP server (Setup, API Catalog, MCP Servers) |
| 3 | Salesforce admin | Creates an External Client App for Claude with the mcp_api and refresh_token scopes; Connected Apps are not supported for MCP clients |
| 4 | Salesforce admin | Sends the app's consumer key and consumer secret to the Claude admin |
| 5 | Claude admin | Organization settings, Plugins: sets "Salesforce Marketplace" to installed by default, available to install, or required, per group |
| 6 | Claude admin | Organization settings, Connectors, "Salesforce (Beta)": pastes the key as OAuth client ID and the secret as OAuth client secret |
| 7 | Each seller | Signs in with their own Salesforce account the first time they use the plugin |
The callback URL Claude uses for the OAuth flow is https://claude.ai/api/mcp/auth_callback.
Permissions: who did what
The plugin talks to the Salesforce hosted MCP server, not to your database. Each seller authenticates through OAuth against the External Client App, so every call runs as that seller. Object permissions, field-level security, sharing rules and permission sets all apply, and the audit trail attributes each action to the person who approved it.
There is one exception worth knowing. Inside Slack, the Claude connection uses a client-credentials flow with a dedicated integration user, so actions taken there run as that user rather than as the person who typed, as MindBlaze points out. If your security team needs a per-seller audit trail, the Claude app route gives it out of the box; the Slack route needs its own review.
What the skills are good at, and what they are not
The skills reason over the account, its activity history, contacts, open cases and Slack context when connected. That is more than a dashboard can do for one deal. Three limits follow from the design:
- A person has to ask. Every skill starts from a seller's request and ends with that seller's approval. Nothing runs overnight across the whole team.
- It inherits the data. A deal whose close date passed three weeks ago, or that has had no buyer reply in 90 days, is described as it is recorded. The skill does not know that the forecast category is wishful unless the data says so.
- It is a beta. The skill set will change, and more skills are announced for late 2026.
For a manager who wants every rep's pipeline scored before the forecast call without anyone opening Claude, the plugin is the wrong shape. A nightly job is. Agentforce Coworker is Salesforce's own answer for autonomous work inside Salesforce.
What it costs
No list price is published. The plugin's calls go through the Salesforce MCP server and count against the org's daily API allocation, while Claude usage is billed by Anthropic under your Claude plan. Salesforce plans to meter agentic calls from registered agents in Flex Credits, with rates not yet published. The layer underneath, first called Headless 360, is where that metering will apply.
Setup errors to avoid
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The connector refuses the credentials | A Connected App was created instead of an External Client App | Create an External Client App; Connected Apps are not supported for MCP clients |
| Sign-in loops back to Claude without access | Missing mcp_api or refresh_token scope, or wrong callback URL | Add both scopes; set the callback to https://claude.ai/api/mcp/auth_callback |
| The plugin is invisible to sellers | Plugin distribution not set for their group | Organization settings, Plugins: set it to installed by default or available |
| A seller sees fewer deals than their manager | Working as designed: calls run with that seller's permissions | Check sharing rules if a seller should see more |
| Beta request not accepted | Org not on the latest Enterprise edition | No workaround during the beta |
Before you apply
- Check the edition in Setup, Company Information. If it is not the latest Enterprise edition, the beta is closed to you.
- Clean the fields the skills read most: close dates, stages, next steps and logged activities. The plugin will repeat them back to your sellers.
- Start in a sandbox. The agent metering Salesforce plans for November 2026 excludes sandboxes, and a skill that writes to records is better tested there.
- Decide who owns the Slack route and its integration user before you turn on the Slack connector.
Frequently asked questions
What is Salesforce in Claude?
Salesforce in Claude is a plugin built by Salesforce and Anthropic that brings a seller's accounts, opportunities and pipeline into Claude. It has 37 sales skills, a Salesforce connector and a Slack connector.
Which Salesforce edition does the plugin need?
The beta requires the latest Sales Cloud Enterprise edition, according to the Claude Help Center and Cloud Odyssey's beta guide. The org must also be approved through Salesforce's beta sign-up.
Can Claude change my Salesforce data?
Claude can update records only after the seller approves, and only within that seller's own Salesforce permissions. Every call through the hosted MCP server runs as the signed-in user.
Does every user need to be configured?
No, an admin connects the org once and each member signs in with their own Salesforce account the first time they use the plugin. There is no per-user setup.
Is Salesforce in Claude free?
There is no published price for the plugin as of 21 October 2026. It requires a paid Claude plan, and its Salesforce calls count against the org's API allocation.
